Last week, Seeking Depth had the honor of being invited back to Knoxville to present at their Psychiatric Symposium.In 2022, we gave a lecture on the application of polyvagal theory on clinical interventions, and this year we expanded it for applications to substance use interventions.Most people are familiar with "trauma-informed" care, but not trauma-sensitivity. The former reflects a wide spectrum from "I know that trauma is bad stuff that affects people," while the latter represents comprehensive training on the ins and the outs of the autonomic nervous system, and how this shows up in mundane every day life, like washing dishes. Trauma sensitivity is not something someone can master in a few trainings, rather, it takes years of ongoing training, clinical oversight, and consultation. The Aftercare Program strides to aid in the recovery of those with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. While we implement a number of techniques for patient improvement, including cognitive training and exercise, we are always studying different approaches to help patients recover in a way that fits uniquely to them.Routinely, participants will be asked about their symptoms and how they are able to get along with others. As our team collects this data and tracks progress during treatment, we utilize a number of cognitive assessments remote and in-person in order to understand one’s symptoms, how their problems affect their recovery, and how our team may enhance their cognitive training to further improve their day-to-day lives. Ultimately, we are determined to obtain a better understanding of how the brain plays a role in attention, learning, and memory in psychotic disorders. World Health Organization (WHO) has published a new, comprehensive diagnostic manual for mental, behavioural, and neurodevelopmental disorders: “ The clinical descriptions and diagnostic requirements for ICD-11 mental, behavioural and neurodevelopmental disorders (ICD-11 CDDR)”.The full CDDR volume can be downloaded free from the CDDR publication page on the WHO website:https://lnkd.in/d-K5x_dAHonored and grateful to have contributed, as a member of the GCPN, to the development of the revision of the ICD-11 CDDR Manual published by the World Health Organization.
