An interesting #bigquestions from Alan Richards today when you consider a recent blog by Emma Knights for the National Governance Association where she refers to:"...governance workload has been largely overlooked to date. Yet, quietly behind the scenes, it is becoming overwhelming for many volunteers. This cannot continue under the radar..."Was so disappointed to hear today that alongside the 'slimming down' of the Governance handbook, the Governor & Clerking Competency frameworks are to be archived by Department for Education. Those of us supporting strategic governance really do need to come together and consider the message this sends not only for Governing Boards but our own services too. What about a national framework where we can ensure there is robust consistency across all sectors, Trust or Local Authority, which means they are held accountable on the same terms? As it stands, this is really worrying about what it means for how Governors will source support & guidance. School Leaders have a national framework and access to NLEs so why are those who volunteer their time, skills & experience being left to navigate the many avenues of guidance this will create?What will be the national standard of qualifying someone to be experienced enough in supporting Governing Boards?
